New drinking game:  Drink every time we celebrate a religious holiday that only exists because Christians appropriated a pagan holiday in order to make it easier to convert forcibly people without having to resort to murder and/or torture (again).

Oh look, it’s Easter.  DRINK UP!!

How To Care For Extroverts [UPDATED]

dailyhuff:

(UPDATE - Added some things after I first posted this.)

Given the amazing spread of that “Care for Introverts” image I posted across Tumblr, I had to think about the fact that so many folks seemed to identify with what was said there. As someone who is basically extroverted (with some decidedly introvert quirks) it occurred to me that the flipside of introversion seems self-evident because outgoing, extroverted people kind of demand you figure out how to deal with them as you go along. Still, I figured it couldn’t hurt to make a few notes in the style of “How To Care For Introverts” for the other half of this particular human interaction equation…

  • Respect their need to share, to ‘talk it out.’ They get their energy from other people.
  • Just as with introverts, never embarrass them in public. If you do embarrass them in public, go along as much as is reasonable if they play it off like a joke.
  • Don’t be surprised if they dive into a new situation headfirst. Don’t freak out either if they flounder a little. They’ll find their way.
  • Extroverts blurt. It’s the nature of the beast. Most try to leaven it with charm, but try to be patient when they don’t.
  • Expect interruptions that may seem rude, to some. Most of the time, they mean well.
  • Build surprise into your lives together. Most extroverts love the thrill of not knowing what’s up - as long as it’s positive.
  • Be prepared for what looks like ADD. The organically outgoing among us feed off the environment around them. They are often the best multi-taskers around, so understand that they are often paying much more attention to you than you think they are.
  • A flashover temper goes with the extroverted personality. The bad thing is it can look like a much more severe storm than it is. The good thing is it’s over quickly.
  • Many extroverts live for the intuitive leap. They reach for it. If teaching an extrovert something new, have patience with them jumping ahead of you.
  • They will always have lots of friends. But most extroverts have a core of best friends, and their loyalty can be fierce and aggressive if they feel the need to defend those friends. As with so many aspects of the extroverted personality, you may have to be patient with this.
  • They love compliments, but can usually see right through insincere flattery. Well-timed encouragement, though, can help an extrovert soar.
  • Sometimes, it’s okay to just go along with the “show.” Consider it free entertainment.
  • Respect their extroversion. Don’t try to pin them to your board or cage them. And do them a favor, if you are not yourself outgoing, extroverted - gently but persistently remind them to read something like this as often as possible. They probably will need the reminders.

30 Day Incubus Challenge — Day 10

Day 10: Your favorite song from Monuments and Melodies.

This is so hard! I would say “Let’s Go Crazy,” but day 20 is “favorite song Incubus has covered…” so I think I’ll save it.

This is still really hard. I’m going strictly off of Disc 2, since Disc 1 is songs previously released…

I love “Look Alive.” It was only released on the Japanese version of Light Grenades, which… in my opinion, it should have been on the American version too. It’s one of the best songs they’ve written. I probably would have said that a few years ago…

Now, at this point in my life, I am going to go with “Neither Of Us Can See.” I recently found a YouTube clip of them performing it on Jay Leno (ugh, I hate admitting watching a TTSwJL clip…his smile is so fake at the end… but I digress) back in 2005 (it was on the soundtrack for the movie Stealth) and the performance was awesome. I always really liked this song, but after seeing that performance I think it’s my favorite. I love Mike’s background vocals!

Here’s the video link (Mike is wearing a Lionel Richie shirt :D):

30 Day Incubus Challenge — Day 9

Day 9: Your favorite song from Light Grenades.

Back when Light Grenades first came out, I would have said “Rogues,” but I really love the musicality of “Pendulous Threads.” I love the strumming in the guitar and the key change comes out of nowhere(!!! :D) and gives a different vibe to the song. It’s a good song to rock out to, and it showcases Incubus’ different style(s).

Plus, it’s five and a half minutes of spectacular.

30 Day Incubus Challenge — Day 8

Day 8: Your favorite song from A Crow Left of the Murder.

This is so hard! I love all of the songs on this album… it’s a great album to listen to in the car in the summer with the windows rolled down. Listening to this album reminds me of driving around in high school… so my favorite, if I had to choose would be “Smile Lines.”

“I understand why they say high school never ends.”

30 Day Incubus Challenge — Day 7

Day 7: Your favorite song from Morning View.

“11am.” It’s been my favorite since I first heard the album when I was 11 or 12.

The first line is just awesome.

“7am, the garbage truck beeps as it backs up and I start my day thinking about what I’ve thrown away.”

30 Day Incubus Challenge — Day 6

Day 6: Your favorite song from Make Yourself.

Make Yourself, since it’s my favorite Incubus song ever. herpaderpa.

30 Day Incubus Challenge — Day 5

Day 5: Favorite song from S.C.I.E.N.C.E.

This is another hard one! Just about every song on this album could be my “favorite.” I really got into this album when I was 16 and starting to think for myself. This album has a juvenile, yet independent energy. I think that’s why I related to it so well in high school. On my iTunes, my most played from this album is “Redefine,” which is the one I was leaning towards putting anyway. The imagery in it is so fantastic: becoming the “human magic marker,” for example. This song inspired a lot of my artwork in high school. I used to listen to this album and start drawing, because the songs were so inspirational to me.

30 Day Incubus Challenge — Day 4

Day 4: Your favorite song from Fungus Amongus.

Oh geez… the album is overall pretty terrible, considering they were in their teens when they wrote it. It sounds very juvenile, and the band is now aware of that. Um, if I had to choose I would say “Speak Free.” The bass line is sweet.
